October 5th 2012, Global James Bond Day

On completion of their 50 grand years, the iconic James Bond Franchise has decided to celebrate October 5th, 2012, as the Global James Bond Day. Albert R. Broccoli’s EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment have jointly taken this initiative to commemorate the occasion of the release of the first James Bond movie, ‘Dr. No’ on 5th October,1962.

Global James Bond Day, comes ahead of the release of ‘Skyfall’, the 23rd Bond Franchise movie. ‘Skyfall’ will be hitting the theaters across the globe on different days i.e. in Britain on 26th October, in India on 2nd November and in US on 9th November, 2012. The producers of this movie, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are super thrilled about the idea as the events will enhance the hype around ‘Skyfall’ before its release around the world.

To mark the 50thAnniversary celebration of the James Bond Franchise, a feature documentary titled ‘Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007’, will also be unveiled in different countries. The documentary directed by Stevan Riley, will unfold the story behind one of the longest running film franchise, which began its journey in 1962. The documentary focuses on the dream of three individuals: producers Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman and the great author Ian Fleming, who gave to the world the charismatic British Secret Service Agent, JAMES BOND.

The other events to take place around the globe include:

  • an online and live charity auction event of 50 lots, which will be conducted by Christie’s in London,
  • showcase of Bond films at the Museum of Modern Art in New York,
  • a Musical Bond Night hosted by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angels and
  • an exhibition by TIFF in Toronto titled ‘Designing 007: 50 years of Bond Style

The Global James Bond Day will revive the larger than life character of James Bond for sure and remind the audience of the day when they were introduced to the super iconic character across the globe, fifty years back.
